Google Gemini has rolled out into my YouTube feed… and I’m impressed. Google’s answer to ChatGPT has often left a lot to be desired. While it’s solid at image generation (except in the hair department) and coding, it still falls short in casual chatting and research—areas where ChatGPT remains better in my opinion. ChatGPT also offers an “incognito” mode and allows chats without an account, which Gemini does not.
Gemini has been integrated into Google Search, with mixed reactions. Some people say it gives inaccurate results, but in my testing it seems fine and is a nice upgrade to Google Overviews. It even has a Perplexity-esque AI mode, though it’s not as in-depth or responsive as it could be. Beyond search, Gemini has been woven into other Google services like Google Messages—with mixed success. But its integration into YouTube? EXCELLENT.
For years, people have been asking Google to make YouTube searchable by text. While they still haven’t gone that far, this is the next best thing. Gemini is integrated into most YouTube videos, and by clicking its icon, you can get a summary of the video—pretty accurate in my testing—as well as timestamps for when something was said. This is incredibly useful for me as a podcaster. I often make funny offhand remarks, and digging them up later is usually a chore. With this tool, it’s so much easier. You can even “chat” with the video and ask it questions.
As with all experiments, it’s not perfect—and unfortunately, not yet integrated into every video. Still, it’s a very promising start from Google. God bless and Tech Talk To You Later!!!
