Samsung released the Galaxy Z Flip 7 series this year with some key improvements — a thinner, lighter design, a bigger cover screen (long gone are the days of Samsung trying to sell a 1.1-inch display as a “minimalism” feature), and finally, DeX support, turning the Flip into a true pocket-sized computer A few months later, Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge, one of the more confusing phones in its lineup.
Sporting a 200-megapixel camera and a tall, slim design, Samsung seems torn between making the Edge a design-centric phone or a performance powerhouse — and honestly, it can’t do both well. Depending on where you shop, the S25 Ultra is actually cheaper than the Edge, though some retailers have discounts that flip the pricing. I’m not sure about the Edge’s gaming performance or battery life, but the better chip may not mean much if the hardware doesn’t back it up.
Sure, you can tweak the software or rely on cropping and AI upscaling to get the most out of that 200 MP camera so it doesn’t feel like you’re missing an optical zoom lens — but you can’t change the hardware. The fact is, the phone is slim, light, and has a small battery, and in this case, the hardware speaks louder than the software. The S25 Edge is a design phone, not a power device.
The Z Flip series is also a design-first phone even more so than the Edge. From its cute custom NFC cases that change your wallpaper, to niche camcorder modes, to the fact that it literally folds in half and has an outer display, the Flip series is infinitely more customizable than the S25 Edge (which, thankfully, doesn’t flip or fold).

People who buy the Edge don’t really care about a 200 MP camera — they just want a thin, light, stylish phone, which the Z Flip 7 already delivers. These users care more about selfies than zoom, and the Flip happily provides that. Because it’s a clamshell, buying a case actually makes more sense — and Samsung provides NFC-enabled customizable cases for them. Plus, you can have two wallpapers, one for each screen.
Samsung should lean into this. Add a few more features to the Z Flip line: make it even slimmer and lighter, while increasing the battery size. Finally, add a telephoto lens to make it a true flagship camera phone. Expand the NFC case and accessory lineup to include the Z flip 7 series of devices, and maybe release more special-edition Flips. Both the S25 Edge and Z Flip 7 are design-first devices but in every meaningful way, the Z Flip crushes it. God bless and Tech Talk To You Later!!!
