S25 Edge?

I am usually a consistent person, but this phone is interesting.

I have long been against the Z Flip series, calling it an expensive pocket mirror, as it would be a midrange device if it were a non-flip phone. So why am I conflicted about the S25 Edge?

At first glance, the Edge is a total scam. No telephoto lens, smaller battery, plus the S25 Ultra's price tag? Not to mention the S25 Ultra is pretty light, 20 grams lighter than my S24 Ultra. And, no Edge screen, like all other Edge devices before it (S7 Edge), for instance. All the removed features in the pursuit of thinness...which is not even a virtue, and by all accounts, the S25 Plus is the better buy.

However, if this were a tad less expensive and turned into its own line, it would be genius. Before Samsung killed the J budget/midrange line, the A series was Samsung's experimental phone line. The A9 was the first phone with 4 cameras, the A80 had a neat pop-up flip camera design, the A90 integrated DeX in a lower-end device, and the A72 had a telephoto lens.

However, when the A series became the midrange "Affordable Awesome" range, the phones stopped innovating as much and became standard slab phones that just took features from older flagships and moved them down the line. I have always wanted Samsung to have a new line of phones that innovate, that test out new concepts. Samsung certainly has the money and it could spice up the smartphone game as well as replace the hole left by LG.

Imagine if the S25 Edge became the Q1 Edge, a phone dedicated to testing a new type of battery and innovative telephoto sensor. Maybe this tech could move on to the S26 or S27 series once it's refined. The Q2 could be dedicated to something else, maybe modularity; Q3, a modern slider or LG Wing-styled device; Q4 a phone with a microSD card slot and headphone jack. If Samsung made this a new line just to have fun or test out new ideas, that would be great!

As it stands now, though, I'm not a fan of the S25 Edge. God bless and Tech Talk To You Later!!
