June 25, 2025 — Tech companies Murena and Fairphone have announced the launch of the Murena Fairphone (Gen 6), a smartphone that combines a focus on digital privacy with sustainable design. The new device is being released alongside the standard Fairphone 6, which runs Android, and will be available in multiple markets starting today.
The Murena Fairphone (Gen 6) runs on /e/OS, Murena’s open-source, privacy-oriented mobile operating system. This version is designed to reduce data collection by blocking trackers at the operating system level. According to Murena, users can access popular apps without compromising on privacy, thanks to built-in tools like Advanced Privacy and a suite of tracker-free apps.
On the hardware side, the device is built by Fairphone, a company known for prioritizing ethical material sourcing and device repairability. The Gen 6 model includes a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, 50MP camera system, and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. Notably, the phone features a modular design with 12 replaceable parts, allowing users to repair or upgrade their devices with a single screwdriver.
Both companies emphasize long-term usability. Fairphone provides hardware designed for durability and repair, while Murena supports older models—like the Fairphone 3—with ongoing software updates, aiming to reduce electronic waste.
Murena has also recently rolled out version 3.0 of its /e/OS platform, which adds new features such as improved parental controls, SMS-based “Find My Device,” and expanded privacy tools. Users purchasing the Murena Fairphone (Gen 6) will also get access to the Murena Workspace, which includes encrypted cloud storage and productivity tools, with additional storage available for a fee.
This marks the fourth collaboration between Murena and Fairphone. The companies describe their partnership as an effort to provide more ethical alternatives in a smartphone market dominated by major tech players.
The Murena Fairphone (Gen 6) is available from June 25 in several regions, including the UK, EU, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Guernsey, and Jersey. It will also be available for pre-order in the United States, with deliveries expected to begin in August 2025.
