Beeper Overhauls Security with On-Device Messaging and Launches Premium Subscription

Beeper, the cross-platform messaging aggregator, is making waves with a major shift in how it handles message delivery and user privacy. The company announced today that it is rolling out on-device connections, eliminating the need for its previous cloud relay system and ushering in end-to-end encryption across supported messaging platforms.

The move marks a significant evolution in Beeper’s architecture. Previously, the Beeper app connected to Beeper Cloud, which in turn interfaced with platforms like iMessage, WhatsApp, and Signal. With today’s announcement, that cloud layer is being phased out. Users' devices will now connect directly to the messaging networks, improving privacy and data control.

“This means a little extra setup effort for new devices, but it also means that you get end-to-end encryption for all networks that support them,” the company said in its official blog post.

The change won’t impact current users of Beeper Cloud right away. The company plans a gradual deprecation of the old system to ensure continuity.

Premium Features Arrive with Beeper Plus

In addition to the infrastructure upgrade, Beeper introduced a new subscription tier called Beeper Plus, starting at $9.99 per month. The plan adds a suite of advanced features aimed at power users, including:

Support for multiple accounts per network (up to three)

Scheduled messaging with the new “Send Later” function

Reminders to follow up on important conversations

Incognito Mode for reading messages without triggering read receipts

Voice note transcriptions for quick reading of audio messages

The ability to change to custom app icons

A total of 10 linked accounts, up from 5 on the free tier

For users with even heavier needs, Beeper Plus Plus will offer unlimited account connections, with pricing starting at $49.99 per month.

Perks for Early Users

As a show of appreciation to its earliest adopters, Beeper is offering 12 total accounts at no cost to all existing users. Those who paid to skip the waitlist during the app’s early days will receive lifetime access to Beeper Plus features.

The announcement reflects Beeper’s ambition to become the go-to universal messaging platform while staying ahead of privacy expectations and user demand for advanced tools. The company hinted that more features and improvements are on the way.
