When people think of news, they may think of apps like X, Fox News or CNN, Samsung News, or Google Discover pages.
But while some feeds can be covered with sloppy, clickbaity content, spammy ads, or stories you aren't interested in, the best feed app is flying under the radar: AI search engine Perplexity.
Perplexity, known for its pretty decent search (it suggested a good book for me yesterday) with summaries like ChatGPT but with direct links to the content, also includes a news feed. I have it tailored to my tech and science interests, and many of my podcast episode topics have come from me reading the feed. My "For You" page is free of ads, and clicking on the stories gives an AI overview plus links to the original content. This is good, as it finds me websites I may not otherwise visit, like a supercharged AI version of an old-school feed.
Swiping is fun and responsive, yet fluid and bouncy like an IG reel/TikTok, and it is ad-free for now. The toolbar at the top allows you to select topics you are interested in reading about. Overall, Perplexity's news feed is a great alternative to the other ad-riddled apps.
