Why Does This Exist?

Hahahahahahaha what is this.

hmd touch 4g

HMD, the phone company known for the Nokia branding, making a ‘Barbie flip phone’ and also making this monstrosity that looks like a Pixel 9a stuck inside a box, released this phone, the HMD Touch 4G. This phone also has the same phone-in-a-box look but unlike having a big dynamic screen it has HUGE bezels, a physical home button, a huge camera island but only one camera. Also, the operating system is cloud-based, so no applications. The homescreen is literally just browser shortcuts.
Anyway, these are the specs of this MP3 player-sized phone.

look at this you could cut wood with it

The screen is 3.2 inches with a 0.3-megapixel front camera and a 2-megapixel rear, a 1950 mAh battery, and, get this, 128 megabytes of internal storage. Yes, a phone in 2025 came with less than a gigabyte of storage, or about enough space for 42 songs or 320 pictures. Thankfully, it can expand up to 32 GB with a micro SD card slot.

The phone runs RTOS Touch OS and supports a headphone jack, Bluetooth, and has a USB-C port. Literally, why does this exist? Yes, it’s for emerging markets, but do you know what the number one tool is in those markets? WhatsApp!!! And this phone doesn’t even have the storage capacity to support it, nor does it have the app store or RAM. EVERYTHING is on the cloud, including, if maps, the browser, and the custom Express Chat app that your Android and iOS friends will need to have any modern messaging experience with you. According to HMD, it bridges the feature phone and smartphone worlds…except the 4000 rupee (45 USD) phone is literally outshined by any phone on the market.

The Tracfone BLU View 5 is a full-featured smartphone for 30 dollars. With apps…and better cameras…and way more storage and runs Android and doesn’t need to be connected to the cloud to work? What if you are out of range? Or want to record a video? Literally, why does this exist?
