Samsung A71 5G Actual Review

10

Hello, this is the TheTechBoy with an in-depth Samsung A71 5G review.

1.  Speed and Chipset

We received a Sprint version of the Samsung A71 5G. The handset has 6GB of RAM, 128 GB of expandable storage, and an Exynos 980 chip.  Update: According to an application on my phone it has the Snapdragon 765G. The information I received was faulty. TheTechBoy regrets the error. The phone loads apps quickly and can have many apps open at the same time. The speed on the phone is good in real life and is about midrange phone speed.

2.  Display and Screen size

The 60 HZ display on this phone is 6.7 inches and has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The display is flat but has the edge screen software. The display is OLED and is very bright and has no touchscreen errors or pixelated dead spots. Although the screen is 60 HZ the display is very fluid and responsive. There are two screen modes Vivid and Natural, and you can change the white balance. There is a Blue Light Filter in the software. The Edge screen has the typical app pinning and has some extra features including screenshots, GIFS, a tally counter, a compass, and other useful features.

3. "Software and Updates"

The Software version of the Samsung A71 5G is running Android 10 with Samsung One UI 2.5. The phone should continue to be updated to Android 13. Special Samsung features include Screen Recorder, Bixby, Edge Screen, Link to Windows Samsung Internet, Scrolling screenshots, and many others. The Software is very fluid and responsive, and the extra features Samsung put in are useful. Some of the things that can be fixed is the lack of Samsung Dex support, and, in my testing, the lack of the ability to connect to external monitors. Also when in folders and the app drawer the home button does not work, but the back button takes you back to the home screen

4. Camera

The Samsung A71 5G has four back cameras and one front camera. There is a 64-megapixel wide camera with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. There is a 5-megapixel macro camera and a 5-megapixel depth camera. In our testing, we notice that sometimes there is a delay in the camera app shutter button and gallery when apps are running. The camera app has Samsung Scene Optimizer, Single Take, Macro, Night Mode, Live Focus, and many other camera modes. The 64-megapixel camera does not zoom in or out but it captures some detailed pictures. The 64-megapixel also does not use Night Mode. The pictures from the main camera look good and only have some slight discoloration by the edges. in Wide-angle shots, very bright light washes out the colors. Still shots are very good and it picks out textures very well. The colors are very bright and distinct, and the ultra-wide camera manages to pick out the texture at the bottom of the picture. Color accuracy is a bit off in some darker pictures and in macro shots. There is no optical zoom and the zoom only goes up to 10 times. In zoom pictures after 5 times zoom the zoom gets worse and you have to be very still. Night mode in scenes where is very dark performs well, while is scenes, where there is some light, is very impressive. In some portrait shots, called Live Focus by Samsung could use some more blur. There is also a basic pro mode.

Video recording has 4K video and Optical image stabilization. Videos look very good in good lighting and the texture is good in spots where light is hitting. Unfortunately, some texture is lost when not in direct light. When filming in good lighting with some shadows the camera was able to adjust to the different brightness in less than a second. In all, this camera performs admirably in many conditions.

The front camera is 32-megapixels and takes some good pictures and video calls. Unfortunately, the camera washes out some texture and makes your face look flat. However, for video calls and face recognition, the camera is fine.

Some things that could be fixed is the camera is the lack to be able to zoom in at .6-.9 times, the ability to use zoom and night mode on the 64 -megapixel camera, and the ability to use OIS on the wide-angle camera.
