Snapdragon Releases The 4 Gen 2 Mobile Platform

Hello, this is TheTechBoy with an analysis of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Chip.

A mobile chip

Snapdragon has realeased the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Mobile Platform. (Flagships use 8Gen, so I'm assuming this is budget.) The platform supports UFS 3.1 memory, better 'Ai' camera processing for photos and videos, and faster 5G and WiFi speeds. Let's dig into this and find out what kind of phones would use this chip.

The chips support fast charging technology that allows phones to reach 50 percent in 15 minutes. These are really good charging speeds for any phone, flagship or otherwise.  The cameras also support 108 MP camera capture, 1080p video recording at 60 FPS, and 720p 120fps slow-motion footage. On the connections side, the chip supports WiFi 5 and WPA3 connections. The screens support 120 Hz and USB 3.2.

You can see that this chip is not for flagships and even some upper midrange phones. However, it nails the basics for sub $300 phones.

It has a 120 Hz screen, supports 108 MP camera capture (most budget phones use 1 large megapixel sensor and 2 inferior sensors), and supports 5G connections, which is important for any phone coming out today.

The chip even has extra goodies such as fast charging that are not commonly seen on mobile platforms. However, the chip lacks in video recording capabilities and connections (only WiFi 5). The chip is also not the most powerful.

Who is going to use the chip? Probably OnePlus (and other BBK brands) and Xiaomi subbrands (Poco, for example). Samsung uses Exynos chips in its midrange phones, Google uses Tensor chips, and Apple uses its A-series chips in all their phones.

In conclusion, the chip nails the basic necessities of a budget device while including some extras. However, we may only see this chip on a OnePlus or Motorola device stateside.

God bless, and Tech Talk To You Later!
