Samsung, Don’t Fail Me When I Need You Most.

I like my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Despite my qualms about internet stagnation and the lack of good apps being developed, it’s a plenty powerful phone… when it wants to be. Now, for some reason, my battery life hasn’t been the best, so I always keep my phone in Power Saving Mode (but with the CPU clocked to 100%), and I carry my battery case around at all times. The battery isn’t the main problem with the phone, though—it’s that it lags when I need it most.

I could be riding on the bus or train with the battery case on, using GPS to navigate Houston’s horrible METRO system. Meanwhile, I may want to listen to a podcast and take notes on things I plan to talk about on my show. Pretty typical day. But if I ever have to switch applications—or maybe just swipe down on the notification shade—the phone lags and stutters. I know the phone can get hot from the charger and the case, but come on, the thermals should be a lot better than this. My phone shouldn’t be lagging or switching to dark mode just because I’m watching YouTube with GPS on while it’s charging.

It’s like if the phone stuttered while running Android Auto in a hot car—not a fun scenario. (Side note: if I had a car, I’d rather use the built-in infotainment system than my phone’s GPS. The car has a bigger battery and screen, doesn’t require data for GPS, and saves your phone’s battery and display from wear.)

Another issue is the cameras. They’re good, but slow to load. Sure, they feel faster than the S22 Plus, but when I need them most, they sometimes lag and don’t open as quickly as possible. I like doing speed tests at cellphone stores, and usually my Samsung phone is just as fast—if not faster—than the latest iPhones. (Weirdly enough, in one of my tests, the iPhone 16e beat the 16 Pro.) Anyway, the camera launch speed is one area Samsung can improve, along with zoom lens switching performance.

Lastly, the RAM is solid, but I regularly keep hundreds of tabs open and end up using about 75% of my RAM—around 9GB. I’d like Samsung to add more RAM and, more importantly, not be afraid to let apps actually use it. I’ve lost posts or prompts countless times when my browser reloads tabs upon reopening. Samsung, don’t fail me when I need you most.

God bless and Tech Talk To You Later!!!
